South Korea Ship Sinking Off Coast carrying about 470 people

A South Korean passenger ship carrying about 450 people sunk off the coast of South Korea today. A massive rescue operation involving 60 ships and helicopters is under way at the site of the sinking ferry.

According to the report the ship was carrying passengers including teachers , 338 high school students about 100 km south of korean peninsula. A distress signal was sent from the ship early on Wednesday, the South Korean coast guard said, triggering a rescue operation involving ships and helicopters.No immediate indication of what caused the ship to list and roll on its side, although one witness told two vessels collided in a main shipping channel and a 751-foot cargo ship ran aground as "loud impact and noise" was heard before it started sinking.
