Four mild tremors jolted Nepal early on Thursday, a month after a devastating earthquake ravaged the country and killed nearly 9,000 people. The United States Geological Survey (USGS), which monitors earthquakes across the world, said on Wednesday that while the chances of future aftershocks in Nepal were lower than its previous forecast, strong tremors could be felt in the Himalayan nation in the next week. According to the National Seismological Centre (NSC), another today of 4.2 magnitude shook Dolakha district, one of the regions northeast of Kathmandu devastated by the 25 April quake. Areas of Nepal remain perilously unstable following last month's devastating earthquake. The fragile hills have been vulnerable to landslides. Usually happening due to heavy rain during the monsoon season, Nepal has seen a series of landslides during the quakes and in the aftermath, the Kali Gandaki landslide being the latest.Landslide hazard mapping is a fundamental tool for disaster management activities in mountainous terrains. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the predictive power of weights-of-evidence modelling in landslide hazard assessment in the Lesser Himalaya of Nepal. The modelling was performed within a geographical information system (GIS), to derive a landslide hazard map of the south-western marginal hills of the Kathmandu Valley.
