Hardik Patel is the 22-year-old who suddenly rose to media attention across India, following his leadership of a protest movement which shut down Ahmedabad ,[3] a city in the Indian state of Gujarat on August 2015.He is a B Com Graduate; Belongs to a middle-class Patidar family from Viramgam, near Ahmedabad; Helped his father run a small submersible-pumps business.He Formed Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), which has become a uniting force for Patels, in July. Prior to june 2015, no-one outside Gujarat had heard his name, but today Hardik Patel is making headlines across India. His inspiration, according to news reports, are the Indian independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and many at his rallies appear wearing Sardar Patel's masks. Patel is convener of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), a movement campaigning for job and educational quotas for the Patel community, which makes up an estimated 20% of the population of the western Indian state of Gujarat. This movement controls India's diamond cutting and polishing industry and they are among the most prosperous businessmen and farmers in Gujarat.
