Various distinguished speakers have noted the need of cordial Indo-Nepal relations bound by shared social, cultural, religious and political systems. The speakers said this at an interaction programme organized here on Monday by Reporters’ Club Nepal on ‘Indo-Nepal Relations – Prospects and Challenges’ on the eve of the 67th Republic Day of India. Nepali Congress (NC) Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel said the Nepal-India relations – sometimes marked by a crisis of confidence – should be managed through transparent conducts and dealings. “The bilateral problems should be settled by rising above narrowed thoughts. The NC has clear opinion that no side should be set aside in democratic dealings, and solutions should be explored in a way that secures the rights of all “, he added. Poudel pledged that the constitution amendment process will be taken ahead in such a way that the constitutionally-bestowed rights of the people would not be curtailed. The Tarai-Madhes centric parties should in no way opt to prevent other political parties from propelling their democratic exercise, he further said. Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa expressed his confidence that the cooperation that has been extended by India to Nepal for socio-economic transformation and modernization of Nepal would continue in coming days as well. “Nepal and India relations have multiple dimensions with 1,800-km open border and shared culture. The ups and downs sometimes seen in the relations between such countries should be sorted out in a positive manner. A developed India is necessary for us towards realizing our broader goal”, Thapa noted.
