Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has urged UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to come to consensus. In response, Chairman Dahal said that they could not sit for talks when the ´majoritarian sword´ was kept dangling above their neck. where CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that initiatives for consensus would be pursued simultaneously with the constitution writing process.Chairman Oli stressed on the need of writing the new constitution as per people’s vote and for the sake of the country, saying that the country should not be held hostage of indecision in the name of consensus. He said the new constitution was not the agenda of a single party and stressed that no one should protest it as it was needed for prosperity and progress of the country and for rights of the people. Oli said his party was of the stance that the modality of ethnic-based provinces should not be adopted as it would create problem incorporating all the groups in the country as it is a multi-caste and multi-linguistic country. During the programme, General Secretary of the CPN (ML), CP Mainali said though the political parties have failed to give new constitution to the country in the slated time as per their commitment, they should work for promulgating the constitution acceptable to all as soon as possible.
