A robot has killed a contractor at one of Volkswagen's production plants in Germany, the automaker said Wednesday.
A 22-year-old contractor was part of a team setting up a stationary robot at one of Volkswagen's production plants in Germany, when the machine grabbed and crushed him to death against a metal plate.
A spokesperson for the car company told the Associated Press that the robot can be programmed for specific tasks and that the company believes the malfunction was due to human error.
The man died Monday at the plant in Baunatal, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) north of Frankfurt, VW spokesman Heiko Hillwig said.
