Professor Doctor Govinda KC started fast-unto-death strike against the controversial appointment of dean at the Institute of Medicine (IoM) from last week.The health condition of Prof Dr Govinda KC is worsening.
Dr KC is in a hunger strike in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for seven days putting forth a string of demands including production of quality medical personnel, decentralization of medical institutes producing doctors as per Nepal's demography and geographical realities and provision for allowing students from far-flung remote areas with indigent background to study medical science. Professor Govinda K.C. is a Nepali orthopedic surgeon and philanthropic activist. He is professor of orthopedics at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital,part of the Institute of Medicine, Nepal. He is known for humanitarian work in Nepal and internationally, and for his activism in favor of independent academic functioning of the government medical institutions in Nepal, notably the Institute of Medicine and Patan Academy of Health Sciences.His non-violent protests and fasts have successfully pressurized the government and stakeholders.
