The world's oldest man, who once said the secret to a long life was a healthy diet and plenty of sleep, has died at the age of 112.

Sakari Momoi died from kidney failure at a nursing home in Tokyo last Sunday. The supercentenarian was married and had five children.

He and his late wife enjoyed travelling around Japan and in his spare time, Mr Momoi liked to read Chinese poetry and practice calligraphy.

He was awarded the record for the world's oldest man last August following the death of American Alexander Imich, who died in June 2014 at the age of 111 years and 124 days.
