Protesters torched govt offices in Jumla

At least five people were reportedly injured in Jumla headquarter Khalanga, after protesters demanding an Undivided Karnali region clashed with police on Monday afternoon. The clash ensued after the demonstrators attempted to trespass the prohibited area and were intervened by security personnel. Local administration has declared the government offices in the district headquarters as prohibited areas after the protests, which began eight days ago, turned more violent.

 Those injured in the clash are identified as locals Ratannath Yogi, Dharmendra Rokaya, Ram Krishna Chaulagain, Nripendra Mahat and Krishnananda Jaisi. According to Chief District Officer, Dipendra Raj Poudel, the injured are undergoing treatment at the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, Local administration said it had no option but to intervene to prevent the demonstrators from advancing towards the District Administration Office (DAO) after warning shots fired in the air failed to detract the latter. The protesters were attempting to demonstrate in front of the DAO. RSS
