Protests over Nepal constitution continues

Posted by Anup Baral August 17, 2015 :

The practices of forcing general strikes (Banda) in the country to have demands’ addressed and to bring more bargaining clout with state authorities continues unabated. At least 62 banda enforcers have been arrested from different parts of the country as of this afternoon. In recent times with country verging on adaptation of federal state modality more strikes have emerged and more are expected in days ahead. “What can we do? There is a strike?” questioned Sudha Mainali, who was walking to Bir Hospital from Samakhushi area. “My father is ill and I have no option but to walk,” she said. Sudha’s father Dambar Mainali was admitted to the hospital last week for treatment of intestinal ailment. The nationwide general strike enforced by CPN-Maoist led 33-party Front and various Madhes-centric parties today is just another in a series of such strikes that is taking its toll of the general public particularly the daily wage earners.
