UCPN (M)-led alliance against constitution through process

Top leaders from various political parties have suggested for continuing the constitution-drafting process through a consensus so as to promulgate a new constitution on the scheduled date. The UCPN (M)-led alliance organised a press conference at Singha Durbar in the Capital on Monday and unveiled its protest programmes. The alliance ’s warning comes after the ruling parties—Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—are preparing to adopt due procedural method if consensus eludes on the disputed issues of the new constitution .alking to media after the meeting, Committee Chairperson Dr Baburam Bhattarai said the meeting reached a conclusion that there was no other alternative to a consensus and some more time should be taken to forge a consensus if necessary without affecting the CA calendar. Questionnaires needed for collecting public feedbacks on the contentious issues shall be developed thorough a consensus. Major parties are yet to forge consensus on the contentious issues of the constitution including federalism, forms of governance and judiciary.
