Majority of Montessori in Kathmandu not registered

While the internationally acclaimed Montessori education system is increasing every day in Kathmandu the lack of proper regulations that are placed on such schools has raised questions about the quality of education they provide.

The goal of early childhood education is to help the child’s spontaneous all round development and cultivate the love of learning. Children develop themselves for which the adults’ duty is to provide them a conducive and safe environment for learning and exploring.Early childhood years are the best period for laying all the foundation of intellectual, social, emotional and physical pattern of behaviours. With the right kind of environment and training children can develop a high quality of independence, concentration, co-ordination, patience, order and self-esteem among themselves. As the body of the child needs food to grow up so is the mind to be able to compare, contrast, distinguish and differentiate.Officials claim that the Montessori schools will soon go through their registration procedures and be brought within the tax boundaries. “Like every other entity based in Kathmandu, it is mandatory for these preschools to be officially listed and pay tax” said KCM officer. Montessori preschools are required to be registered at the concerned Wards instead of the District Education Office as the latter keeps a record of only schools that enroll students from grade one. Montessori schools, which claim to follow the education system that focuses on creating a stimulating environment for children’s development, have grown popular in Kathmandu in the past decade.
