Tents, thick blankets, dried food, medical items and financial aid are among urgent contributions required to assist earthquake victims in Nepal. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said these contributions were in dire need as most victims hit by the disaster have lost their houses and faced a shortage of fuel. He said these items could be sent to the Malaysia-Nepal humanitarian aid collection centre at the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) in Puchong near here.

Contributions could also be sent to the aid collection centre at the lobby of Menara MARA along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman or KK Mart convenience store chain nationwide, he told reporters after launching the aid collection centre at SMART headquarters near here today. "Financial assistance could be channeled through Bank Muamalat under account number 16010000318713 or in the name of the National Security Council Secretary," he said. Earlier, Shahidan received 35 tonnes of essential goods contributed by Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM), Malaysia-Nepal Business Council, MERCY Malaysia, Patriot Foundation of Malaysia, MyNADI Foundation, Malaysia Hindu Dharma Mamandram, Julie's Biscuit and KK Mart convenience store chain. Shahidan said the goods collected would be sent at least twice daily by the National Security Council via MAS and Malindo Air for free.
