Dr Govinda KC, a senior professor at the Institute of Medicine (IoM), is preparing to stage a hunger strike yet again following what he has described as failure of the concerned authorities to respond to his demands.
“The report was formed by experts. The intention to prolong the implementation by another 30 days is nothing but a ploy,” said Dr KC. Dr KC was referring to a committee chaired by National Planning Commission member Yagya Bahadur Karki, who was commissioned to develop an action plan for policy implementation after putting the report for discussion among concerned stakeholders within next 30 days. "I have no choice but to go on a hunger strike again. No one from the government has contacted me to discuss the issues I had raised," said Dr KC, who had given an ultimatum to the government to act on the recommendations of the Mathema committee by 4 pm Wednesday. Dr Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led committee had submitted its report to the government on June 29.
