Krishna Bahadur Mahara, born on July 1, 1958 in Liwang-7, Rolpa, plunged into politics in 1979. Leaving prolonged teaching profession in 1991, he contested the parliamentary election from Rolpa representing Unified Peoples' Front and was succeeded in his first participated election. A graduate in education faculty, Mahara became a central member of then CPN-Maoist in 1996, consequently serving as a politburo member and standing committee member, followed by the role of spokesperson of the party from 2003 till 2008, with underground life in 1995. After the comprehensive peace accord, he made himself public and elected in 2008 CA election from Dang 3 with 20,784 votes, defeating his closest rival NC's Anita Devkota, who bagged 10,812 votes. Another opponent CPN-UML's Chhabi Lal Oli received 4,879 votes, confining to the third. After the restoration of the parliament in 2006, he represented the party to the parliament, leading his 83 fellow comrades and was appointed, after a year, as a Minister for Information and Communication in the coalition cabinet headed by Girija Prasad Koirala. Likewise he was subsequently appointed as Minister of Information and Communication in the Cabinet headed by Puspa Kamal Dahal "Prachand" in 2008 and appointed with dual portfolio of as a Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs in the cabinet led by CPN-UML's chair Jhala Nath Khanal , for a brief period .
