Drinking Water Shortage in Kathmandu Valley

Posted by Anup Baral April 21, 2014 :
The capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu, has become a victim of water shortage from a long time. Kathmandu has more than 3 million population demanding 320 million litres of water per day.

It can be clearly seen that Kathmandu is going through a serious problem of water shortage. Water is supplied from over 100 sources in Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley, including municipal taps, dug wells, shallow-aquifer tube wells, deep-aquifer tube wells, and dhunge dharas (or stone spouts, public water sources that capture groundwater or surface water)however the quality of water is below average. Kathmandu’s population is increasing at the rate of 4.7% along with which the water demand is increasing too (CBS, 2011). The Water Supply Corporation of Nepal has tapped all possible sources of water for Kathmandu.Program: Alagdhar at image TV
