The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked sovereign state located in South Asia. With an area of 147,181 square kilometres (56,827 sq mi) and a population of approximately 27 million. Nepal has become a Federal Democratic Republic from May 29, 2008 after the Constituent Assembly overwhelmingly voted for abolition of the country’s 240-year-old monarchy. The historical first of the Constituent Assembly (CA) has endorsed a proposal to amend the interim constitution implementing the declaration of Nepal as a federal democratic republic.
