Woman falls to death from clock tower in Dharan

A 21-year-old married woman died falling off from the clock tower at Bhanu Chowk in the district on Sunday afternoon. Hemanti Magar of Haraicha-9 in Morang district was killed in the spot when she fell from the clock tower which is a major touristic destination in the city at around 12:15 pm. It is unclear whether she committed suicide or somebody pushed her to death. Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman feel from the top storey of the clock tower (around 53 feet). The dead body has been taken by the police for postmortem. The deceased had tied nuptial knot with one Tom Bahadur Magar, 29, only three months ago. It is learnt that Tom Bahadur was at the premises of the clock tower at the time of incident but, it is uncertain whether he was present at the top floor.

Police Inspector Mukunda Rijal at Area Police Office said that they are in no condition to confirm the reason for the fall as only preliminary investigation into the incident has started. According to him, police have taken three persons including the deceased’s husband under control for investigation. Soon after the tragic accident, the clock tower management committee has banned climbing the clock tower till further notice. Chairman of the committee Manoj Kumar Myanangbo said that they would allow climbing only after taking suggestions from the local administration. The clock tower that was built a decade ago is a major destination for tourists arriving in Dharan.
