Nainital school in dock over student's death

Shan Prajapati (15) a student of Class IX in the Sherwood College, fell ill with symptoms of cough, fever and shaking chills on October 28, and was admitted to a local hospital by the college management, according to his family members. Shan had joined the school on 17 November after spending Diwali vacations in Kathmandu. Barely 15 days after his father Dr Aksh Prajapati, a doctor in Kathmandu received an anonymous call from a senior student of the college disclosing Shan’s illness. Aksh then sent an email inquiring about Shan’s health but received no mail in reply. On 13 November when he inquired about his son he was informed that Shan was suffering from pneumonia. Neena Shrestha, an officer in the World Bank in Kathmandu and mother of the deceased student Shan Prajapati, registered an FIR in Sector 20 Police Station, Noida. In the FIR she charged the school management of negligence amounting to unintentional murder of her innocent son. he police said that an FIR has been registered against the management of the school under Section 304 (A) of the IPC (causing death by negligence), after the parents of the deceased student lodged a complaint, saying they have not been informed about their ward's illness.
