Speakers at a national-level workshop held in Kathmandu today stressed the need to tackle rampant proliferation of pharmaceutical and narcotic drugs, suggesting that drugs were the root cause of most crimes. The workshop has formed a 16-member pressure group led by Metropolitan Police Commissioner AIG Kuber Singh Rana to carry out an anti-drug awareness campaign in the Valley. According to AIG Bhisma Prasai, chief of Operations Department, Nepal Police and coordinator of a high-level central committee formed to fight the drug menace, around 70 per cent of crimes in the country were related to drug and alcohol addiction.
