Daura-Suruwal or Labeda Suruwal is a traditional national costume of Nepal worn by men. The equivalent female national costume is the Gunyou Cholo. The coat was added to the costume by Jang Bahadur Rana, Prime minister of Nepal in the 19th century. Daura is the upper wear and Suruwal is the trouser. Daura Suruwal has several religious beliefs identifying its designs and has remained the same for centuries. The Daura has eight strings denoted as Astamatrika-Singini as follows.The people of Nepal wear different types of costumes having the influences of ethnically religious repercussions and thus their traditional dress seems a bit whimsical but still it is very charming. Daura Suruwal is considered as the National Dress of Nepal which consists of a knee-length sleeved shirt that ties closed at the side, pants and shoes called docha. This dress is normally worn by the Nepalese men and it may also subsist a coat or jacket over for warmth. Several aspects of the Daura Suruwal have religious implications for the Buddhist and Hindu practitioners in Nepal.
