The CPN (UML) has said that it would not be diverted from its commitment of promulgating the new constitution through the Constituent Assembly (CA).After the standing committee meeting held at CA Building, New Baneshwor today, Party Secretary Pradeep Gyawali demanded immediate action against those involved in vandalism in CA and the attack on leaders responsible for compensation, determining that the vandalism and attack was pre-planned.Stating that that attack on party chairman KP Sharma Oli, senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, vice-chairperson Bidya Devi Bhandari, and lawmaker Rishikesh Tiwari, by lawmakers of the UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-based political parties was carried out in a planned manner, he said the party takes the incident as undemocratic, uncivilized, inhuman and anarchic. The meeting determined that the party would foil the plan of the UCPN (Maoist) of making the CA unsuccessful as it has conspired to make the CA a failure by squandering time, he said. The standing committee drew a conclusion that the party would adopt all measures to promulgate the new constitution even through voting process and to bring the UCPN (Maoist) back on the right track.Gyawali clarified that today’s CA meeting would forward the proposal for the formation of the questionnaire committee. Leaders of the agitating bloc maintain that their protest is contingent upon the action of the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML. “We were forced to take stern measures after the NC and UML along with the CA chairman adopted a unilateral approach. If the meeting was postponed after Baburam Bhattarai’s address, the incident would not have happened,” said Maoist CA member Haribol Gajurel. meanwhile, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has blamed Prime Minister Sushil Koirala of obstructing the consensus among parties on the sticky issues of new constitution.Organising a press meet in the Capital on Wednesday, Dahal also blamed NC leaders of derailing the consensus efforts among parties. “PM was hell bent on following the CA process when we asked to forward the issues that were settled. He was against forging consensus,” Dahal said.
