Alleged acid attacker faints during press conference

Police has made public Jiwan BK, who allegedly attacked two school girls, Sangita Magar and Shima Basnet, with acid in Basantapur, Kathmandu on February 22. BK, a 20-year old permanent resident of Fulashi-8 of Ramechhap, was made public.Jiwan BK, who allegedly attacked two school girls with acid, fainted during the press conference organized by Nepal Police to make him public.

The 20-year-old youth was taken to Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. Police informed that BK is taking medicine for depression. The government on Friday took a decision allowing recent acid victims to take School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations from the hospital where they are undergoing treatment. An unidentified person threw acid on Sangita Magar and Seema Basnet at a coaching centre in Basantapur of the capital city on February 22. The Council of Ministers took the decision in the wake of the girls’ demand that such arrangement be made. The Ministry of Education has been instructed to make necessary arrangements for the exam.The government has pledged to mount necessary initiative in implementing law and making monitoring more effective to deter the repetition of the incidents of violence against women in coming days.
