Crime Story - Illegal arms trade flourishes in Nepal

The National Women’s Commission (NWC) has condemned the acid attack on two school girls in the Capital on February 22, saying its serious attention has been drawn towards the incident.

Sangita Magar, 16, of Ramechhap district, currently living at Jaisidewal-7 in Kathmandu, and Seema Basnet, 15, of Rautahat district, presently living at Bhimsensthan in Kathmandu, who were preparing for the upcoming School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exams came under acid attack by an unidentified man when they were waiting for morning tuition classes at a local tuition centre. Meanwhile, the NWC also condemned the news about a seven-year-old girl of Kalaiya Municipality-8 in Bara district, published and broadcasted by different media, saying the girl who had gone missing since February 20 from a cosmetics shop, was found naked and in an unconscious condition at Tri Chandra Higher Secondary School at Kalaiya-6 on Sunday morning. Issuing a press release , the NWC flayed such cruel, inhuman and heinous crime. The press release states that the NWC calls on the government to take stern action against all guilty by carrying out investigation into the case soon in an effective and transparent manner and to adopt special alertness against the same.
