Dhaka Topi Day' celebrated in Jhapa

Posted by Anup Baral March 01, 2014 :
A Dhaka topi or Nepali topi is a type of hat, popular in Nepal. "Dhaka Topi Day” was first celebrated for the first time in Jhapa district on March 01, 2014 with the slogan “Hamro Topi Hamro Shan, Nepaliko Pahichan” (Our topi our pride, Nepalis' identity).

Hundreds of men took out a rally in Birtamod bazaar wearing Nepali Dhaka topi to celebrate the day. Some of the onlookers also joined the rally. This is believed to be the first time that Dhaka Topi Day has been observed in the country. At a function held at Birtamod on March 1 last year, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder of The Art of Living, had suggested that Nepalis should celebrate a “Topi Day” to preserve their identity. The organizers said it inspired them to celebrate the day.
