Nepali alcohol "Rakshi" shop shut down

Nepali raksi is often made at home.Raksi distillery in NepalRaksi is usually made from kodo millet (kodo) or rice; different grains produce different flavors.It is a strong drink, clear like vodka or gin, tasting somewhat like Japanese sake.

Lat year Police in Kathmandu raided three private homes in Kathmandu Valley on Monday and destroyed over 3,000 liters of illegally-produced alcohol. A police squad deployed by the Metropolitan Police Circle Office, Swayambhu on Monday raided a house being used for producing illegal alcohol at Chaumati-15 of Kathmandu and destroyed over 2,000 liters of alcohol including raw materials used in the production. During a search and cordon operation launched in preparation for the next month´s SAARC summit, police raided the house which was allegedly used for alcohol production for a long time. Police jointly raided the house in the presence of members from the Inland Revenue Department and Consumers Association and nabbed Sanukaji Maharjan, the owner of the still.
