Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam has said that he will go ahead with his plan of outsourcing the electronic visa processing to a private company within his tenure.
Nepal was becoming a transit point of criminal activities with the development of information and technology. He said both “Nepali and foreign companies could claim the tender to be floated for the online visa processing.” On the occasion, Home Secretary Surya Prasad Silwal however said as there was not any capable private organisation meeting the Microsoft standard in Nepal, there was no option but to seek the assistance from foreign organisation.Lawmakers heavily criticized minister Gautam after some of his statements were found to be false. Gautam had earlier said that Nepali companies are ineligible for the process as licenses issued by International Civil Aviation Organization is a prerequisite for the eligibility. However, secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs Surya Silwal and immigration expert Anup Baskota refuted Gautam's statement during the meeting.
