The sinkholes that forced dozens of families to flee their homes at Khahare of Armala VDC in Kaski district two weeks ago should sound alarm bells for the residents of entire Pokhara Valley, if geologists are to be believed. The caving in of lands damaged some farms and buildings but, fortunately, resulted in no causalities. But geologists say that if such disaster had occurred in other parts of Pokhara where unmanaged human settlements are mushrooming at a rapid pace, huge loss of lives and damages to properties would have been inevitable.
