Nepal looks to China for trade amid India hiccups

The government has requested the Chinese government to reopen trade routes that have remained out of operation following the April 25 quake. Authorities from the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS) held talks with Chinese Embassy authorities on Wednesday and requested Chinese help for reopening of two custom offices – Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi as soon as possible. According to the ministry, the Chinese government has been undertaking road repair on their side of the border. The Rasuwagadhi custom had just come to formal operation in December 2014. Since the quake hit the nation five months back, the trade routes of Barabise-Tatopani-Khasa and Nuwakot-Rasuwagadhi-Kerung have remained shut.
