House speaker Subash Chandra Nemban resigns

Posted by Anup Baral October 14, 2015 :
Legislature-Parliament Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang and Deputy Speaker Onsari Gharti have resigned from their post. The resignation by both Nembang and Gharti has cleared the path for the conduction of elections to the two posts. The new constitution has a provision for conducting an election to both the posts within 20 days of its promulgation. Subash Chandra Nembang, born 1953) is a Nepalese politician and the Chairman of Constituent Assembly of Nepal. He was the first elected Free Student Union chairman of Mahendra Ratna Campus in Ilam and also elected as general secretary of Nepal Bar Association in 1987. Born in Suntalabari in the Ilam District, Nembang has emerged victorious from Ilam-2 in all elections held after the restoration of democracy in 1990. He won both legislative elections of 1991 and 1999, and went on to hold key posts like the chairman of Public Accounts Committee and chairman of the parliament. Known for his diplomatic skills, Nembang was blamed for bringing the sovereign institution like the Constituent Assembly to an end by keeping it in a hostage-like situation in the name of consensus.

Parliament secretariat informed that the filing of candidacy will likely be done on Thursday while the election will be conducted on Friday.
