Khadga Prasad Oli elected 38th PM of Nepal

Election process of new prime minister of the country has begun at the parliament on Sunday. Although the election process was scheduled to begin at 11 am earlier, it was delayed for about 90 minutes as major parties engaged in making last-ditch efforts to ensure victory for their candidates.

My candidacy for national unity, prosperity and development: Oli CPN-UML chair and candidate for the post of the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that his candidacy for the post of PM was for national unity, consensus and the development of the nation. While sharing about his candidacy for the post of the PM under the Constitution Article No 298 (3) and Legislature-Parliament Interim Working Procedure 2072, clause 19 (3), PM candidate Oli said that the political parties completed their historical responsibility by issuing a democratic constitution by following democratic norms and values. He added he filed his candidacy for the post as per the need of the hour to implement the new constitution and lead the nation ahead. Chair Oli said that the constitution was issued on the basis of maximum consensus among the political parties. However, chair Oli expressed his discomfort on the discontinuation of the co-work and consensus. He said that he filed his candidacy with the support of various political parties. He remembered his party's support as he himself had seconded Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala's candidacy during the formation Koirala led government. Leader Oli expressed his commitment to go ahead with support, consensus of all parties to lead the nation ahead. He added that he would continue to co-work and consensus with Nepali Congress in the days ahead even to strengthen national unity and prosperity implement the new constitution. UML chair Oli added that there are about over 100 laws to be formulated, constitution has to be amended to address the right demands of disgruntled forces. He added that there were the need of to modernize the agriculture sector, to run the transparent and responsible activities, maximum utilization of natural resources, trade promotion, tourism development, attracting foreign investment among others to make the prosperous nation. Chair Oli added that his wish was to maintain social harmony, maintaining diplomatic ties on the basis of equality by clarifying misunderstanding between neighbouring countries even to ease the supplies. Formation of social justice and equality based nation was his wish, he added. Chair Oli urged Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala to withdraw his candidacy and to support him as some NC leaders were in favour of consensus and co-work. He urged all to elect him to the post of PM and clarified that he was not against the Madhesi and Tharu people though it was only the illusion spread against him. His candidacy was even to address the issues of terai, marginalized, minorities, Muslim among other disadvantageous groups. He further clarified his candidacy was to unite all in the thread of national unity, maintain harmonious bilateral and multilateral relations.
