Priya is a very serious and dedicated girl pursuing her higher studies, who also has a keen interest in poetry and the education of the poor. Amit is in the same college and becomes a big fan of her poetry. Slowly, Amit befriends her and asks her to work for the student’s society. Priya laps up the offer immediately and they become friends. In the meanwhile, Priya rushes home to see that her ailing father is very serious. Priya’s mother takes advantage of the situation and fixes her wedding with a man who is not only twice her age but also unwell. Her mother argues that the man is rich and this will help them cover the cost of her father’s illness. Priya’s marital life however, is short-lived as her husband’s condition worsens and he dies. Naturally, Priya is blamed for his death and is sent to a home for widows. Amit, who is unaware of the storm in Priya’s life visits the home for a survey and finds a distraught Priya there who refuses to acknowledge his presence.
