Belgian police arrest 16 in anti-terror raids

Posted by Anup Baral November 22, 2014 :
Belgian prosecutors announced early Monday that sixteen people were arrested in a series of police raids the day before. But the suspect of the Paris terror attacks, Salah Abdeslam, was not among the detainees. No arms or explosives were found during Sunday's raids, according to a Belgian federal prosecutor. The Belgian government maintains the highest alert level for Brussels for a third day. Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel warned of a "serious and imminent" threat of attacks similar to the one that killed 129 people in Paris. The prime minister announced late on Sunday that schools and the metro system will be closed on Monday. He also said big events in busy areas will be halted, and police and military force presence will be reinforced.
