India is the land of Gandhi & Buddha: Narendra Modi

In a strong sign of his displeasure over the often talked ‘intolerance’ issue, PM Narendra Modi remarked, India would never tolerate intolerance as it is the land of Lord Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi.“India will not tolerate intolerance,” he told a press conference he addressed along with British Prime Minister David Cameron.Buddha was born in Shakya (Sakya) Kingdom of Kapilvastu which lies in present-day Rupandehi district, Lumbini zone of Nepal. It has not been possible to assign with certainty the year in which Prince Siddhartha (the birth name of the Buddha) was born, it is usually placed at around 623 BCE.The Buddhist tradition regards Lumbini, in present-day Nepal to be the birthplace of the Buddha. The Ashok pillar, set up in Kapilvastu, by Emperor Ashok of Magadh Dynasty describes the place as the birthplace of Lord Buddha. He grew up in Kapilavastu. The exact site of ancient Kapilavastu is unknown. It may have been either Piprahwa, Uttar Pradesh, present-day India, or Tilaurakot, present-day Nepal. Both places belonged to the Sakya territory, and are located only 15 miles apart from each other.
