Nepal’s three major political parties tabled the much-hyped constitution amendment bill in Parliament on Tuesday. Major parties discussed four alternatives to clear the House obstruction and make way for tabling Constitution Amendment Bill and Reconstruction Authority Bill, ignoring objections from the United Democratic Madhesi Front.Both bills had remained stuck as the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) and the agitating UDMF were at odds over forwarding them. UDMF had lifted its obstruction only for endorsing the reconstruction authority bill, citing humanitarian concerns. Though the main opposition NC insisted on presenting both bills together for endorsement at the same meeting, UDMF had been opposing this.
