Posted by Anup Baral December 25, 2015 :
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Anup Raj Sharma has said that the commission will continue monitoring human rights situation amid the ongoing protest programs in the Tarai-Madhes districts. Sharma said that the commission will move forward in line with its constitutional responsibility of monitoring human rights situation. Issuing a press release on Tuesday, the NHRC informed that it has decided to give continuity to monitoring after the leaders of the agitating Madhesi parties expressed commitments not to obstruct the monitoring teams of the constitutional body. The NHRC had called back all the monitoring teams it had deployed to monitor the human rights situation during the ongoing agitations in Madhes districts after a group of protestors attacked an NHRC monitoring team at Jutpani of Nawalpur VDC, Sarlahi last week. According to the NHRC, protestors reportedly manhandled a team led by Human Rights Officer Neetu Gadtaula. Mandira Shrestha, Biva Dhungana and Shreeram Karki were the other members deployed to monitor the ongoing protest in Madhes. The protestors torched their vehicle, camera, important documents and jackets meant to identify the team members as monitors.
