UCPN (Maoist) restructures party

The UCPN (Maoist) has restructured the party by reorganizing the party committees based on seven provinces of the new constitution. The party has formed its seven provincial committees and nominated heads of the committees dissolving its 14 state committees that were in practice ever since the insurgency era. A central committee meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) on Tuesday also endorsed the political paper presented by party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the central committee on December 2. Altogether 117 central committee members had aired their views on the document. Ram €Karki has been named the in-charge for province number 1 and Bishwanath Sah for province number 2 while Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Dilaram Acharya, Chakrapani Khanal, Janardan Sharma and Lekhraj Bhatta have been named the in-charge for provinces 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively. “We have revised our organizational structure following new provisions in the constitution. The meeting decided to form seven provincial committees dissolving the state committees,” said party spokesperson Dinanath Sharma. UCPN (Maoist) decided to amend article 28, 44 and 47 of party statute paving way to form seven provincial committees in the place of the 14 state committees. The party has also dissolved the existing district committees and decided to form district organization committees for an interim period. The central committee meeting also decided to hold village and municipal convention at the earliest. “The new organizational structure of the party might be redesigned after implementation of state restructuring in the country,” said Sharma. Meanwhile, UCPN (Maoist) has scraped membership of 22 central committee leaders joining Baburam Bhattarai's new political force after quitting the party. Devendra Paudel, Hisila Yami, Ganga Shrestha, Ram Chandra Jha, Ram Kumar Sharma, Maherdra Paswan, Chinak Kurmi, Khmilal Devkota are among the leaders in the list.
