Electric crematorium located in the Pashupatinath Temple area has come into operation from Sunday. As the construction of the two-storey building to house two separate crematoriums within the Pashupati area is nearing completion, the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) is gearing up to start the crematorium within two months. Govind Tandon, member-secretary of the PADT, said that construction of the building has been almost completed. “It would have been completed a while ago, had the contractors not halted the construction,” said Tandon. According to him, workers are now laying marble on the walkways within and outside the crematorium premises. Installing transformers and painting the building are among other works yet to be done. “Once those tasks are done, we will start it,” said Tandon.
