Nepal army to construct road to join China border (Video)

Nepal Army has decided to mobilize a team to open tracks and upgrade a section of the Betrawati-Rasuwagadhi (29 km) road.
The decision comes a month after the cabinet entrusted the task to the army.
According to Nepal Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Tara Bahadur Karki, the team will leave for the site to set up its camp on Wednesday.

The government decided to build the road to connect Nepal-China border town of Rasuwagadhi with Kathmandu after supplies of essential commodities came to a halt due to Indian blockade. The existing Rasuwagadhi-Dhunche-Kathmandu road is long and damaged at different places. By building an all-weather north-south road, the government aims to diversify its heavily lopsided trade with the southern neighbor by expanding trade with China.
Karki said the team will start work from January 11 from Shantibazaar of Rasuwa. It will widen the existing 19-kilometer single track opened by different hydropower projects along the Mailung-Syaphrubeshi route. “In addition to that, we will also open a new 10-kilometer track for the road,” Karki added.
Earlier, parliamentary Development Committee had directed the government to focus on strengthening of trade routes, particularly Betrawati-Rasuwagadhi and Jomsom-Kora La to bring supplies from the northern neighbor.
