New Zealand have not always had the best of run in the premier tournament at the U-19 level, with their best-ever result coming in the third edition in 2000 in which they finished as runners-up after losing to England. The side have been struggling in the tournament so far in the warm-up fixtures, having lost to the Sri Lankans due to a top-order batting collapse before narrowly scraping past Afghanistan, and will look to start their league fixtures on a fresh note. The side will be led by Otago offspinner Josh Finnie, and he will be making his second appearance in the tournament, having played two games in the 2014 edition.
