10 dead in north India caste riots

The worst affected area in Haryana where army and para-military forces were deployed to take the situation in control. Indian security forces have clashed with protesters who were demanding government benefits in the northern state of Har-yana. At least four people are confirmed dead. The violence erupted as local police and army forces tried to quell rampaging mobs in the city of Roh-tak. According to an officer, state authorities ordered police to fire without warning at those instigating riots.

Tensions have been simmering since Friday, with reports of protesters burning public and private properties in several cities. They've also blocked a highway linking the Har-yana state to the capital New Delhi. The protests were called by the Jat agricultural community which is seeking guaranteed government jobs at both federal and state levels.
