Lawmakers in Nepal Fail to Agree on New Constitution

Nepalese lawmakers have failed to agree on a new constitution whichcost billions of taxpayers money.Another deadline for drafting a new constitution for the Himalayan nation was missed on January 22 as the main political parties squabbled amongst themselves over key issues.Analysts say the protracted stalemate raises the risk of unrest in the impoverished Himalayan nation, where lawmakers this week scuffled in parliament as tempers flared. The country's rival parties have spent years trying to agree on a constitution. Other parties has decided take the constitution drafting process along with dialogue and effort for a consensus with opposition parties. The meeting held at Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar this afternoon decided to go ahead with the process as well as with consensus, NC vice-president Ramchandra Poudel said. He urged opposition political parties to participate in the recently formed questionnaire formation committee.
