PM Koirala and UCPN (M) Chair Dahal-Meet

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal held a meeting at Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar, this morning in an effort to remove deadlock seen in constitution writing process and give political outlet. Chairperson Dahal reached Baluwatar to hold dialogue for the first time after relation between ruling parties and opposition distanced with the beginning of stalled constitution drafting process by forming Questionnaire Committee in the Constituent Assembly on January 25. Before this, Prime Minister Koirala on January 30 reached out Chairperson Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat to call for dialogue. The meeting between Prime Minister Koirala and Chairperson Dahal has been taken positively at a time when the UCPN (Maoist)-led alliance was sticking to its stance that they would not sit for dialogue until assurance of constitution making on consensus.

Addressing the same public programme in Chitwan on Tuesday, both the leaders had echoed the need to resume consensus journey to remove current political deadlock. The discussion between two leaders was centered to clear off persisting political deadlock, said PM Koirala’s press coordinator Prakash Adhikari. He further informed that matters on various alternatives were discussed in course of clearing the deck. A meeting of the senior leaders of the NC and CPN-UML on Tuesday had decided to hold extensive dialogue with opposition and ask CA Chairperson to summon CA meeting to initiate the process if consensus bid remained elusive.SM
