The banda enforcers set fire to a taxi in Koteswor-Balkumari section early this morning.
Taxi owner Niraj Baniya, a local of Hetauda, who was visibly shaken by the damage to his taxi, expressed worry about eking out livelihood for his family as the taxi was his only source of income. The opposition alliance has enforced nationwide general strike from April 7-9, accussing the ruling parties of 'hijacking' the Constituent Assembly and demanding for a consensus based constitution. An alliance of 30 opposition parties called the strike in protest at government plans to bring out a draft of the country’s new constitution next week without seeking their agreement. Police claimed that activists attacked and vandalized seven buses and trucks but no serious injuries were reported. It is common in Nepal for protesters to mob vehicles that defy strike calls. Nepal abolished its monarchy in 2008 but political differences have left it without a constitution.
