Two brand new Mi-17 helicopters begin operation

Nepal Army on Tuesday received two Russian made choppers Mi-17 V-5 as per the procurement agreement made on December 19, 2013. Russia's state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport's Joint Stock Company delivered the two choppers to the Nepal Army.

Nepal and Russia had signed a contract for delivery of two Mi-17V-5 choppers, which was scheduled to be delivered in 2014. The two helicopters is said to cost US$ 35 million.They are lighter in weight than choppers used by the NA currently and have an ultimate life of 25 years. A four-member Russian technical team will stay in Nepal to regularly examine the choppers till completion of one year or 300 flight hours, whichever is earlier.
