Public Opinion Collection: Tension runs high

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)-Nepal staged demonstration, describing the people’s feedback collection on the draft constitution a ‘drama’. Different leaders of the party including General Secretary, Chandra Bahadur Gurung, Joint-Spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, leader Bharat Jangam and lawmaker Sita Luintel today staged a protest against the feedback collection taking place at Tripureshwor-based National Sports Council (NSC). Lawmakers of Kathmandu Constituency No 1 including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development, Prakashman Singh was busy collecting people’s feedback in the spot. The demonstrators on the occasion chanted different slogans including ‘Scrap secularism’, ‘Declare Nepal a Hindu state’, among others. A minor clash had taken place between the RPP-Nepal cadres and police, who has to use minor force to bring the situation under control. Joint-Spokesperson Shrestha said that although they protested the feedback collection task, it was not the party’s policy to foil it. He further said that people’s referendum over important issues like Hindu nation, federalism and republicanism are the demand of our party. Likewise, Chairman of Rastriya Dharmasabha Nepal, Dr Madhav Bhattarai, objected over the declaration of the country as a secular state due to influence of foreign countries. The RPP-Nepal has been demonstrating across the country to protest the feedback collection task. RSS
