Former minister/Ambassador: Deep Kumar Upadhyay

Ambassador of Nepal to the Republic of India H.E. Mr. Deep Kumar Upadhyay was born to a middle class Brahmin Hindu fami ly in Kathmandu, Nepal on 24 September 1949 . He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (1973) from Tribhuvan University of Nepal. Ambassador Up adhyay is married to Mrs. Mithu la Upadhyay. They have two daughters and one son. On 30 April 2015, Ambassador Upadhya y presented to Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon'ble President of India, the Letter of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal to the Republic of India.
Ambassador Upadhyay has had a distinguished socia l political career which he began as a Chairman (elected) of Village Panchayat in 1974 serving in progressively as the Member of the District Panchayat in 1976 . He actively participated in democratic movements in 1979, 1990 and 2006 towards the establishme nt of Multiparty Democracy in Nepal .  

Things to know about Deep Kumar Upadhyay

He hails from Kapilvastu district in southern Nepal and do not have experience in foreign affairs or in any prior assignment in a diplomatic position He is a central Working Committee member of the Nepali Congress and a stauch supporter of Koirala He also has served as an assistant finance minister In the 2008 Constituent Assembly election he was elected from the Kapilvastu-1 constituency, but lost the elections from the same constituency in Year 2014 It should be noted that the ambasadorial nominee has to face a parliamentary committee hearing before the agreemo is sent for approval of the host country.
