Incredible footage of a humpback whale breaching was captured last Friday (21 August) near Westport, Brier Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. The pictures were taken by Sandy Seliga on a whale watching tour organised by Mariner Cruises Whale & Seabird Tours.

Whales are a widely distributed and diverse group of fully aquatic marine mammals. They are an informal grouping of marine mammals within the order Cetacea, excluding dolphins and porpoises, so to zoologists the grouping is paraphyletic Nova Scotia is one of eastern Canada's Maritime provinces on the Atlantic. With numerous lakes and long coastlines, it's home to puffins and seals, and popular for water sports such as kayaking. The Bay of Fundy, with its famously extreme tides, is a whale-watching destination. Halifax, the capital, dominated by the star-shaped Citadel, is known for its lively waterfront and Victorian-era Public Gardens.
