NHRC Nepal Chairman Anup Raj Sharma, who is currently in Qatar, signed the agreement with NHRC Qatar Chairman Ali Bin Samikh Al Marri today. The three-member NHRC team led by Sharma had arrived in Qatar on Saturday. The team held talks with various organisations and individuals including high level Qatari officials, regarding the existing situation of migrant Nepali workers in the gulf state, the NHRC Nepal said in a statement today. The team had meaningful talks with the Qatari Ministry of Interior regarding resolving problems of migrant workers and their complaints, the NHRC claimed. Both the signatories have shown commitment for the implementation of agreement, the statement added. The deal is valid for four years and the signatories can renew it in mutual consent. The effective implementation of the agreement would help in protection of rights of the migrant’s workers in Qatar, stated the press release.

Twenty six years after the first major economic blockade by neighbouring India, Nepal has been caught napping with no easy way out.
