Eight years on, Kanchanpur floods victims awaiting rehabilitation

The flood in Mahakali and other rivers triggered by incessant rainfall for the past four days has damaged paddy crops of more than 300 farmers in Kanchanpur district of far-west Nepal. According to District Agriculture Development Office Kanchanpur, flood has deposited sand in 200 bighas of paddy field in Daiji and Bhimdutta Municipality turning 30 bighas of paddy field into river banks. The flood has destroyed 25 bighas of land in Haldukhal of Bhimdutta, four bighas in Mataina, three in Bramhadev, two in Pipariya, eight each in Barakunda, and Tilakpur, four in Ultakham and four in Sarki Tole of Daiji by disposing land. There was, however, minimum impact of flood in the paddy fields of southern part of the district also inundated by the flood, said Agriculture Information Officer, Ram Chandra Bhatta.
